The inner conflict of where you are right now - is not where you want to be

May 15, 20255 min read

There’s a quiet conflict brewing within you - a deep, internal tug-of-war of the feeling of despair pulling in one direction, and the feeling of longing pulling into the other.

You can’t ignore it anymore.

Maybe you don’t want to ignore it anymore.

On paper, your life looks good.

You’ve built a stable life: a respectable job, a reliable income, a polished LinkedIn profile, and the reputation of being the one who always shows up, gets it done, and holds it all together.

But inside?

You feel like you’re quietly falling apart.

There’s a heaviness in your chest at the end of the day. A hollowness that creeps in when the world goes quiet - after the final email is sent, or when you're lying in bed, scrolling, searching for something to make you feel something.

You’re tired of the rinse-and-repeat cycle, of waking up every day and slipping into the version of you the world expects.

You wonder, “Is this all there is?

You feel emotionally flat.

And it’s not a passing thought anymore. It’s a persistent ache.

Because deep down, you know you’re meant for more.

Not more in the corporate sense - not just another job or title, another bonus, another line on your CV - but more in a soul-deep way.

More truth.

More meaning.

More you.

But the truth is, the life you’ve built - as successful as it appears - feels more like a cage than a home.

Something is always missing.

You’ve achieved, performed, pushed, and proved yourself many times over - and yet, you feel invisible without your job title, your output, or your ability to hold everything together.

You’ve worn the mask for so long, you’ve started to forget what’s underneath, if it wasn’t for that inner whisper, the quiet voice reminding you that there must be ‘more’.

And now… you’re standing at a threshold.

Self leadership

“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” - Anaïs Nin

It’s like standing at the base of a massive mountain - behind you is the life you’re surviving through, the comfortable one, the predictable one and on the other side is the life you long for:

  • a life that feels vibrant, meaningful, full of purpose and presence.

  • A life that feels creative and free.

But between here and there is the not knowing how.

The foggy in-between.

The fear of change, the fear of staying the same.

The question marks and doubts that pile up like boulders.

It feels overwhelming.

Because you’ve never been taught to lead yourself, how to climb this kind of mountain, the one where the path isn’t about fixing yourself or becoming someone else, but finding your way back to yourself.

The Self Leadership Effect

“You do not have to become someone else to be worthy. You only have to remember the truth of who you already are.” - Unknown

You pride yourself in being self-aware. You know what you want and what you don’t want, you’ve read the books. You listen to the podcasts. You journal. You’ve done the coaching. On the surface, you’re doing “all the right things” to better yourself.

But deep down, nothing really shifts.

Because the missing piece isn’t another strategy or checklist.

It’s you, the woman who's never been taught how to choose, the women you were before the world told you who to be.

The one who feels deserving, is full of life and creativity and dreams of waking up with purpose. Who wants to feel peace within herself, joy, connection, and meaning - not just tick more boxes on a never-ending to-do list.

Your yearning isn’t a sign that broken and you’re definitely not ‘behind’

You’re not too much or too emotional or not strong enough.

You’re just tired of living a life that doesn’t reflect the truth of who you are.

The mountain, you think you need to climb? It’s not about achieving more or becoming someone different.

The Self Leadership effect

It simply is about coming home to yourself.

And that journey isn’t linear. It doesn’t require you to quit your job tomorrow or blow up your life. It starts by turning inward - not to fix yourself, but to remember yourself. Without any fluff.

To peel off the layers of shoulds, expectations, and personas.

To reconnect with your heart, rewriting the story in your head, accepting yourself and trust your truth, and your desires - the ones you’ve silenced for far too long.

It starts with giving yourself permission to be human, to let go of that armour, to stop performing.

Give yourself permission to nurture your curiosity and allow yourself to discover who you really are.

Yes, it feels scary.

Yes, it feels like you're risking the identity you've built.

But you’ve spent so many years existing, wouldn’t it be great to finally feel like you’re living?

This isn’t about abandoning your life - it’s about reclaiming it.

You don’t need to climb the mountain all in one go. You just need to take the first step — back toward yourself.

You are not alone.

You are not lost.

You are just waking up.

And that is the beginning of everything.

Susanne Kubik - The Self-Leadership Effect

self-leadership, self-agency, authenticity, corporate

Hi, I'm Susanne. For most of my career I've worked in high pressured environments in Consultancy and Investment Banking where I perfectly adapted to the corporate soldier mentality, simply because I felt I needed to fit in, feeling otherwise invisible, insignificant and compared myself notoriously. For years I was enduring my corporate existence or forever planned my exit strategy, carrying the burden of needing to be seen as "professional" was more important than being seen as human. However, I learned that there is another way .... Finding my true self instead of chasing outward success has been the game changer that affected all areas in my life positively.

Nowadays I am sharing the simple strategies and mind hacks to silence the inner critic with others, so they can finally replace the self-doubt for inner knowing and find their brilliance beyond roles and job titles and live a live on purpose and with intention.
